Numerical simulation of a Phase Change Material/Water Cylindrical Heat Exchanger: A Smart PCM Mobile Bathroom

This paper focus on numerical modeling of discharging process of a Phase Change Material (PCM) / Water coaxial heat exchanger used for Domestic Water Heating (DWH) application. The mean target of the proposed Latent Heat Storage Unit (LHSU) is to ensure warm water during a longer period. The Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF) enters by the inner tube of annulus. The outer tube is filled by three different PCMs. The enthalpy method is used taking in to account natural convection in the equivalent thermal conductivity of PCM. The thermal balance between the HTF and the PCM is checked. The obtained equations are descretized using control volumes method. The obtained algebraic equations system is resolved using a TDMA algorithm. Results show that the outlet water temperature and the duration of asserting hot water are both function of the water inner temperature.
